Does the merciless dark carnival of life have you feeling like a shriveled husk of a person? Are you plagued by nightmares about the yawning nothingness surrounding our measly little planet? Are you just not having the best of mornings?
If so, simply visit any of Santiago's' numerous locations (before 11AM, mind you!), order a 1/2 and 1/2 (medium spicy) breakfast burrito with cheese, and cram that S.O.B. into your face cavity. You will experience a warmness in your belly so pure and good that any of life's troubles will be momentarily forgotten. Everything you normally worry about will melt away as the exemplary tortilla, perfectly seasoned potatoes (not too many!), fluffy eggs, savory meat, gooey cheese, and otherworldly green chile sauce slide into your gullet, reigniting for a fleeting moment the golden innocence with which you used to taste and enjoy food as a young babe.
For this consciousness-altering experience--this divine interlocking of six humble ingredients--you will pay $2.50, which is roughly the cost of two things of chips at the gas station, or a medium cup of black coffee at Starbucks, or one gallon of gas on a good day, or the tip on a carry-out order. In other words, you will be stealing from the establishment with their permission.
I can't say I've tried any of the other food at Santiago's yet, but I don't need to. It could all be slimy trash, and the place would still deserve five stars, because, until 11AM every day, they serve up unmitigated joy. Long may they reign. -

Delicious breakfast burrito. The green chili flavor inside paired with the chorizo and egg, you don't need any salsa. It was shocked at how flavorful the burrito was and look forward to having again.

Asked for a shredded beef burrito and they told me that they only make tacos with shredded beef, what? That makes absolutely no sense, you cant substitute ground beef with shredded beef when you have shredded beef prepared already for tacos? Wow.... Los Portales is way better anyway...

Okay, for some reason the employees here can not get orders right. Came in here the other day to get dinner and they didn't give me the bean and cheeses burrito smothered. So I called and they told me they would give me a two week credit but after the two weeks it would expire. What!? So I asked, so if I don't come back in two weeks I don't get the food I paid for...? The girl said "okay after the two weeks it will still be good." Umm okay cool. So I came back in today to get the burrito and they give me a burrito in foil when I asked for it smothered and she said "oh sorry that's what the girl wrote down that you wanted" and when I said that's not what I ordered the girl looked at me with a blank stare and said nothing... so I left. Not going to come back to this location. I like Santiago's food but the people here are not the smartest.
